Awards

The award ceremony of Young Investigator's Awards and Women in Inflammation Science Award, and Inflammation Lifetime Achievement Award will be held during the Closing Session on Wednesday 29 June 2011.

IAIS YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARDS

Entry Qualifications
The award is open to research students still in Ph.D studies or someone who has completed his/her Ph.D studies in the past 5 years. Medical, veterinary and dentistry students are also eligible as are those in residencies.


What is required
Applicants for the IAIS Young Investigators Award will be expected to submit an abstract with regular registration, mini-paper, CV and a two page summary of research history.

A short list of six contributions will be selected from the applications and asked to present their work for oral presentation at the meeting.

Registration, accommodation and basic travel expenses will be refunded for those selected for the short list.

500€ for each of the six winners


Abstract
Abstracts should be entered on-line by midnight (CET), , Jan. 31, 2011, with an indication(*) that this should be considered for the Young Investigator Award.

These abstracts will be published as part of the supplement to Inflammation Research which will act as the abstract book for the Congress.

(*) Please select “I apply for YIA.” when you submit an abstract through this congress web site. As your submission is processed, you will be given the abstract registration number. Please make sure to send your Mini paper, CV and Summary of Research history with this registration number to the congress office by e-mail. no later than January 31, 2011.


Mini paper
The mini paper should report on novel experimental findings on inflammation research and regenerative medicine and should include the following:

  • The abstract text submitted online
  • A short introduction
  • An abbreviated method section
  • Results
  • A short discussion followed by 6-8 references
  • 4 tables or 4 figures or 2 of each


The total number of characters in text, from introduction to discussion should not be more than 5600 characters (spaces included). This would be equivalent to 4 pages in Inflammation Research. The mini papers of the six finalists will be published in Inflammation Research supplement which contains the abstracts for the meeting. The judging committee for the scoring of the mini papers is international and anonymous.


Ethical considerations
Papers involving human subjects should receive local Ethical Committee approval and the informed consent of all subjects.

Experiments involving animals should be conducted in accordance with the relevant local legislation.


CV and Summary of Research history
You are also required to submit a CV and a two page summary of research history.

IAIS WOMEN IN INFLAMMATION SCIENCE AWARD

The purpose of this award is to recognise and honour an individual female scientist who has demonstrated scientific excellence in the field of inflammation research and who has, either through leadership or by example, promoted the advancement and development of women in this field.


The Award
The winner of the "IAIS Women in Inflammation Science Award" will receive a financial award and a commemorative plaque. Complimentary conference registration will also be provided.

The winner is requested to present a 30-minute lecture on the inflammation related topic of her choice, during the World Congress on Inflammation.


Nomination and Award Process
Nominations will be accepted from all scientists. However, institutions or organisations are not eligible for this award, and candidates may not nominate themselves. A panel of distinguished judges representing both academia and industry will the select the winner. The decision will be based solely on the candidate's scientific accomplishments and her impact on the advancement of women in inflammation research without regard to race, nationality, geographic location, or religious or political views.


Nominators are asked to maintain the confidentiality of the nomination process and to refrain from informing the candidate about the nomination.
Nominators are required to submit the following material in order to qualify:

  • A letter of recommendation in English (1,000 words maximum) describing: (a) the candidate's major scientific achievements and their relevance and impact in the field of inflammation research (b) the candidate's contribution to the promotion and advancement of women in inflammation science.
  • The candidate's curriculum vitae in English.
  • A complete list of the candidate's publications and an indication of his or her most important original articles in scientific literature.
  • Two additional references and the candidates contact information
